My little man has been learning all about Shakespeare in school this term, and it tied in nicely with a beautiful parcel packed with crafts that I received from Viking to celebrate Shakespeare Day, on the 23/04/2019.
He has been learning all about Shakespeare’s life, and it reignited a spark of love and respect for his work.

We received a wide range of goodies and one Sunday afternoon we got creative. We chatted all about Shakespeare and some of his well known plays and sonnets.
We chatted about some well known sayings – that we owe to Shakespeare:
- “Fight fire with fire”
- “Not slept one wink”
- Wild Goose chase”
- “Green eyed monster”
- “Knock, knock who’s there?
Getting creative is something that children love, but something adults can forget or fall out of love with as we get older. Or simply just don’t have the time.
Having a little person in my life means colouring and doing crafts is a weekly occurrence, and it really does help to relax me after a busy week.
The parcel contained so many wonderful goodies and together we got to work.

As I become older, I realise and appreciate more so, what a truly magnificent wise and talented man Shakespeare was.
I must admit I didn’t really appreciate his work when I was in school.
Neither did I realise that he wrote 154 sonnets and 38 plays and his work was widely criticised at first, people now think that was because he wasn’t university educated.
Which is quite a shocking fact, when it is believed that Shakespeare has given many words (1700-3000) to the English language.
Not only were his plays and sonnets so varied touching on love and friendship, he also bestowed wisdom and guidance with his words that have stood the test of time.

What is your favourite sonnet, quote or play by Shakespeare?
I would love to know.
Happy Shakespeare Day!
