Chocolate Orange Tiramisu Recipe

When little legs asked if we could make some Tiramisu, I am not gonna lie I was kinda shocked

Apparently it’s his favourite dessert, which I feel is a strange choice for a 5 year old.

But any how, one rainy Saturday afternoon we decided get our chef hats on and give it a go.

I incorporated the chocolate and orange as I wanted to reduce the coffee amount, because kids and coffee well that’s just a recipe for disaster right?

It was the most simplest of dessert to make, and it tasted so good.

So here goes…

Chocolate Orange Tiramisu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 8 trifle sponge fingers
  • 1/2 a tub of quark
  • 200ml of vanilla yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon of decaffeinated coffee
  • The juices of two fresh oranges
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 1 shot of coffee liquor
  • 4 pieces of dark chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons of Agave Syrup

Method:

  1. To a wine glass add 2 sponge fingers to the bottom of each glass.
  2. Add the coffee granules and liquor to a bowl, add 300ml of boiling water, and mix well.
  3. Spoon a tablespoon of the liquid over the sponge fingers in each glass.
  4. To a mixing bowl add the quark, vanilla yoghurt, agave syrup, and scrape the inside of a vanilla pod into the bowl.
  5. Cut the two oranges in half and squeeze the juice into the bowl.
  6. Mix together for a minute or so.
  7. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the mixture over the sponge fingers, and grate a little of the chocolate over.
  8. Add another 2 sponge fingers and spoon over the coffee mixture.
  9. You will have 2 layers, with the creamy yoghurt mixture being the last stage.
  10. Dust a little cocoa powder over the two glasses using a sieve and add a piece of chocolate to each glass.

Ta Daaaaaaa!!!

All done!

I lightened this dessert by opting for quark and yoghurt, opposed to cream and mascarpone.

These two ingredients are far to heavy for me, and the quark and yoghurt worked really well.

It also drastically reduced the fat content.

You can of course use caffeinated coffee, I just didn’t want little legs being like a jumping Jack all afternoon!
