The original Estée Lauder Double Wear, is one of my favourite foundations. The coverage, longevity of the formula, and shade ranges, are just some of my favourite factors.
My only one niggle with this foundation, is that it’s a little heavy and thick. I do need to lighten up the formula with an illuminating primer like Mac Strobe or Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base. When i do this, Double Wear is for sure my favourite foundation.
When i seen that there was a new addition to the Double Wear family, I was so excited to try. This version seemed more aimed at us dry or dehydrated skin folk. The words “water” and “nude” screamed lighter texture, and a more illuminating formula. I hoped this was the case, but i also still wanted the coverage and longevity that the original Double Wear brought to the table. I WANT IT ALL!
Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh SPF 30 Foundation
Housed in tall heavy glass bottle, there is 30ml of product, and the price tag is £32.50. There is a whopping 33 shades in the range. The foundation claims to offer a weightless yet powerful coverage, 24 hour wear time, and an SPF of 30.
I opted for the shade i always buy, 2C1 Pure Beige (I was colour matched in store around 4 years ago) and this is the perfect match. I have read that it can oxidise on some people, so I would recommend trying in-store and if this happens, opt for a shade lighter. The texture feels like a serum, it’s a runnier fluid than the original Double Wear. It’s a lot sheerer, and is more illuminating when applied, but all whilst still offering great coverage and longevity. The product feels like skincare, it’s super comfortable on the skin.
There is no pump on the bottle. This product is much runnier than the original. So a lot more comes out, and could easily be wasted, if you are not careful.
Estée Lauder do sell pumps separately, priced at £5 which i think is a little discourteous, this is a high-end foundation and if the likes of L’oreal and Rimmel can whack a pump on their foundations for free, then I feel they should too.
Overall I am very impressed with this foundation, it’s everything I wanted it to be. It blends easily into the skin (I use a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush) and it looks so natural and leaves the skin looking incredibly healthy and smooth.
I feel this is a great Summer foundation for people with dry/dehydrated skin as it leaves a sheer, lightweight, natural finish, but covers what needs to be covered, and all with the much welcomed added SPF.
It stays put on the skin (not as well as the original) so I do doubt the 24 hour wear time claim, but in all honesty who’s wearing foundation for 24 hours anyway?
So if you like the original Double Wear foundation, but found the formula to be a little heavy and thick, I feel you will really like this.
Have you ever tried this foundation, or the original?
